We need assistance watering the beautiful potted plants around our campus. This task usually takes 90 minutes and needs to be completed 7 mornings a week through the growing season (May-October). The volunteer would utilize various hoses stationed around the building and will not be required to carry water. They will need to be able to manage the use of a hydrant key to turn water on/off and be able to walk safely over uneven terrain. We are happy for volunteers to claim one or multiple days per week.

United Way of Harvey and Marion Counties is seeking a dependable monthly volunteer to help keep essential personal care and over-the-counter health items available to community members at the Newton Public Library.

The volunteer will receive an orientation to the Care Closet, OTC Medicine Cabinet, inventory process, safety expectations, and partner organizations. United Way staff will remain available to answer questions and provide support.

Access to hygiene products and basic medications can have a meaningful impact on a person’s health, confidence, and well-being. By helping keep these resources stocked and organized, this volunteer will play an important role in making sure community members can access essential items when they need them.

The position of the Volunteer Ally is to provide intentional friendship to community members who have completed the Getting Ahead Class.  The Volunteer Ally listens and provides encouragement, without judgment, to Circle Leaders working to make positive changes in their life. The Volunteer Ally provides new perspectives, consistency, accountability, and a focus on future goals during their 18-month match with the Circle Leader, while upholding Peace Connections vision of a thriving community sustained by peace and social justice.

Impact: The Volunteer Ally is a positive, consistent support in the lives of families working to get out of financial poverty.  The Volunteer Ally creates a new relationship for the family, forming an intentional and encouraging friendship during their journey towards stability. As a Volunteer Ally, you will assist families as they grow financially and personally, genuinely engaging with community and investing in long-term outcomes for us all.

Dates vary

Provide inspiration and ingredients for a meal of your choice to feed 60-80 people, usually about $300. This is a great project for a youth group, book club or church committee. We'd love to have you or your group feed us once, once a month, once a quarter - or however you choose to honor us with your time and treasure. The Tuesday night meal at Circle of Hope is at the core of everything we do. The Circle Leaders, their kids, their Allies, the childcare workers and random friends all join together for a night of community  support, and it all begins with a meal, and the meal begins with YOU! (We hope) This meal represents our weekly commitment to each other and binds us to Peace Connections' vision of a thriving community sustained by peace and social justice. Please contact us for specific dates when meals are needed. Hours may vary depending on meal chosen.

Come and support the Circle of Hope kitchen staff as they provide the Tuesday night meals once, or weekly. Duties include meal prep, serving the meal and cleaning the kitchen. Expect great camaraderie and the satisfaction of feeding others.  Come once or come every week!

Childcare volunteers provide support and supervision to the children whose parents/caregivers attend Harvey County Circle of Hope meetings. The Childcare volunteer will provide a safe, positive and nurturing experience while upholding Peace Connection's vision of a thriving community sustained by peace and social justice. There is a meal provided at 5:30. Come once or come every week!

Safehope is looking for someone who enjoys cooking.  We need someone to make a meal for our adult domestic violence survivor support group the 1st Monday of each month.  The meal should be able to feed 20 people.  A Safehope staff person will meet you at the location to transfer the meal from your vehicle to the meeting area.

We have many care givers asking us to find their male child a mentor and we need more men volunteers in Harvey and McPherson Counties! Please have coffee with me and let me share how easy it is to be a Big Brother, there is no obligation after the information session to say yes. We just know one mentor can change a youth's life for good!

OVM invites the community to act with restorative practices by corresponding with an incarcerated person. Many people in prison want to better themselves, and can benefit from consistent support from someone with a fresh outside perspective.

Staff will match you with an inmate from our waiting list. You commit to write at least one letter per month for at least one year. If for any reason you decide you do not want to write after all, please let us know as soon as possible! One letter a month may seem like a small thing but that envelope is significant to an inmate who has limited contact with the outside community. Your commitment says, “I care; you can depend on me.”

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers should be caring, relational people who value and foster friendship.

Your goal is to provide support and friendship during incarceration. Volunteers are not expected to be therapists, financiers, legal advisors, or parole sponsors. They are friends who enjoy wholesome relationships and who like to see and encourage good in others.

The pen pal relationship facilitated by OVM ends with the incarcerated person’s release from prison. Our experience has shown that this offers safety and healthier relationships both for our volunteers and for the residents. We encourage prison residents to navigate the transition to public life within established re-entry programs. We can help provide information about available re-entry resources if you like.

You can communicate via postal mail or electronic mail. You may opt to use OVM's office address as an intermediary, to protect the privacy of your home address.
We will provide training and support, including suggestions for how to write to establish common ground, and more detailed policies & procedures.

Represent your neighborhood, support a victim, and interface with an offender to bring resolution for all in a conflict.

OVM began offering Neighborhood Accountability Boards (NAB) in 2017. In these restorative circles, offenders meet with community members to discuss their situation. Community members are not a jury, but rather concerned neighbors with the interest of the victim, offender, and whole community in mind.

NAB encourages participants to take responsibility for their actions, striving to make decisions that will positively contribute to the community. In many cases a NAB is an alternative for a juvenile offender who would otherwise face charges in the justice system.

NAB meetings are scheduled according to participants' schedule availability, are sometimes performed via videoconference if preferred by participants, and usually last about an hour. Typically there is only one NAB meeting per case.

M-2 is a partnership program with Hutchinson Correctional Facility that "matches two" - a volunteer visitor from the community with a resident in prison - for monthly visits.

Since 1973, M-2 has helped to build relationships between folks on the inside and outside of prison walls. Visitors and residents meet for an hour and a half each month to talk, share food and encouragement. This simple act of connection demonstrates that all are made in the image of God and worthy of relationship and support.

The Harvey County Department on Aging is seeking volunteers (55+) to co-coach A Matter of Balance (AMOB), an evidence-based program designed to help older adults prevent falls, reduce fear of falling, and stay active.

We are seeking compassionate individuals to volunteer as snack makers for our residents. As a snack maker, you will be responsible for making daily snack items for our dogs. All these items are referred to as "enrichment." This is an essential role in keeping our dogs happy, energized, and mentally stimulated while waiting for their forever homes. 

Our animals get a different enrichment item every day. These items can be made ahead of time and frozen, but it works best to have fresher snacks made the night before they get handed out.

These lessons range from prenatal development to healthy personal boundaries, making each appointment no longer than one hour in length. Training will be provided before meeting with clients.
